Went to the allotment this morning to finish off stapling the felt covering over the window replacement board.

About the allotment and this blog

I began this blog to keep a record of the community allotment I work on, with all its joys, its successes and its disasters! In 2009 the allotment was a jungle of weeds and brambles and full of rubbish. But since we started work on it in March 2010, it has been transformed and we have gone from strength to strength. I am a volunteer Health Champion and along with another volunteer we run the community allotment at a small site in Clacton-on-Sea. The people who work with us are mostly disadvantaged, because of mental or physical health problems or learning disabilities. The NHS trust who fund us recognise that gardening is therapeutic and that it can help people recover from health problems. It gets people growing, out in the fresh air, getting exercise, and harvesting some of their own produce when it is ready, as well as making friends and improving their social skills.

This blog is written from a personal perspective and I do not claim to represent either the NHS or any other Health Champion volunteers, and all opinions expressed are my own.
